I have found very little support for wireless in any version of Linux I have used.   Almost all other hardware components are supported in one fashion or another, yet wireless cards, wireless adapters and such are often not supported.   Does anyone know of a gui-configurator that will at least identify your wireless card if not load the drivers for you?   PS how come wireless is so ill-supported in Linux?

Welcome to Distrostop!

About wireless support in linux... Someone else might be able to give an insight to that, but that is just the case. I am also frustrated by that.

You can try to find your wireless card here: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ and see if it's supported and what's the driver to use with it.

You can also see some information about your pci cards by typing this into a terminal: lspci

Do you know what your wireless NIC is?  /sbin/lspci should be able to list it.

tis an Airlink101 - I hear someone groaning in the background somewhere - yes, I am a tightwad.  Model no is awlh3028 and I found an "all-in-one" linux driver on drivers.com under Realtek, which is the chipset for that my card - apparently they have others (thanks to that one guy for the link). but I'm so gui-bound and ignorated (that's a bushism from when he was guvner down here) that it will take me a while before I even figure out how to makefile or what ever mod-thing I'm supposed to do to mount the damn thing.   I could just plug it into the router.  It's only four feet away, but it's the principle of the thing.  I'll figure it out... at least by the time if not before the technology's outdated.

Durond, actually, i thought it was getting pretty good. One of my laptops is wireless-less. My Airlink 101 worked, and my Linksys did not. The Linksys wanted a WinDriver that you would have to use ndiswrapper for. However, the Airlink card uses an Atheros chip driver.. And i have a "G" and a "Super G", that uses an Atheros chip. But i also found that NOT ALL DISTROS have that chip driver.(2 yrs ago). You probably have tried another Distro and have it blinking by now. Have fun,  mikes

Hi mikes,

Thanks for posting here!  I haven't gotten a computer without a Intel wireless NIC in quite some time.  It works great.
